Georgia has successfully secured a commitment from 5-star EDGE Isaiah Gibson, one of their top in-state targets, soon after he decommitted from USC. The Bulldogs’ streak of positive news with in-state 5-stars continues with Gibson now being part of the team.

Hailing from Warner Robins, Georgia, Gibson was a priority for the Bulldogs throughout the recruitment cycle despite his unexpected commitment to USC in the spring. Last week, he retracted his pledge to the Trojans, and Georgia swiftly capitalized on this.

On Monday, Gibson announced his commitment to Georgia, following a surprise visit to Athens as the dead period began. “Athens is just great. I feel like, to me, Athens is unmatched,” Gibson told Dawgs247 earlier this spring. “Football, outside of football, they meet every criteria for me.”

Gibson’s commitment comes after three visits to Georgia since mid-May. He attended a scavenger hunt event in Athens, returned for an official visit, and chose to take an unofficial trip to Georgia instead of an official visit to Oklahoma last weekend. The Bulldogs remained persistent in their pursuit of the 6-foot-5, 250-pound EDGE.

Immediately after his spring commitment to USC, Georgia’s coaching staff, including Coach Smart, reached out to Gibson.

“Honestly, after I committed, Coach Smart texted me one minute after I committed. Coach Smart, Coach Schumann, Coach Diribe, Coach Scott, everybody was like they’re going to be there until the end,” Gibson said. “They were just saying they were going to be there until the end.”

Despite his brief commitment to USC, Gibson’s affinity for Georgia never diminished.

“It’s just been amazing energy since I stepped in the building. Coach Diribe, the energy was there from Day 1,” he said. “It was everything about Georgia, I really did like.”

Gibson has been identified as either an EDGE or a defensive lineman at various points during his recruitment. Chidera Uzo-Diribe has always been his primary recruiter at Georgia, and Gibson has consistently stated that the Bulldogs see him as an EDGE. According to the 247Sports recruiting rankings, he is the top-ranked EDGE in the nation.

“They see me playing on the EDGE. I love the overall personality of Coach Diribe,” he said. “We’ve built up the relationship over time, and Coach Diribe and I got really close.”

Gibson, the No. 17 overall prospect in the country, boosts Georgia’s recruiting class, keeping them at No. 4 in the team rankings and closing in on No. 3 Notre Dame. He is the Bulldogs’ 15th commitment for the 2025 class.
