Report: Mavericks Eyeing Trade for Blazers’ Jerami Grant
According to NBA insider Ian Begley of SNY, the Dallas Mavericks are exploring a trade for Portland Trail Blazers forward Jerami Grant.
The Mavericks, who fell to the Boston Celtics in the 2024 NBA Finals, are looking to bolster their roster, while the Blazers missed the playoffs last season.
“Several teams, including the Mavs, have checked in on Jerami Grant’s situation in Portland,” Begley reported. “Grant, 30, is entering the second season of a five-year, $160 million contract with the Trail Blazers. According to ESPN Insider Bobby Marks, the salary cap is expected to rise consistently over the next few seasons due to the NBA’s new broadcast rights deal. This is relevant because Grant’s deal will be viewed much differently in 2-3 years than it is today.”
Grant played in 54 games for the Blazers during the 2023-24 season, averaging 21.0 points, 3.5 rebounds, 2.8 assists, 0.8 steals, and 0.6 blocks per game. He shot 45.1% from the field, 40.2% from three-point range, and 81.7% from the free-throw line. Grant is set to earn $29.8 million next season.
Over his career, which includes stints with the Philadelphia 76ers, Oklahoma City Thunder, Denver Nuggets, Detroit Pistons, and Blazers, Grant has averaged 13.0 points, 4.0 rebounds, 1.6 assists, 0.7 steals, and 1.0 blocks per game.
The Mavericks are also looking to trade Tim Hardaway Jr. this offseason. Hardaway Jr. is set to make $16.2 million in the final year of his contract.
Dallas is building around stars Luka Doncic and Kyrie Irving and is also interested in Tobias Harris, who is an unrestricted free agent and not expected to re-sign with the Philadelphia 76ers.
