The Texas Longhorns are facing a significant challenge with the recent injury to their star wide receiver, Xavier Worthy. Worthy suffered an apparent injury during the Big 12 Championship Game against Oklahoma State. He was seen grabbing his left lower leg after a tackle and was later helped off the field by trainers. Although initial X-rays were negative, indicating no severe damage, Worthy was spotted on crutches, casting doubt on his availability for the Longhorns’ upcoming bowl games .
Additionally, the Longhorns’ offense took another hit with running back Jonathon Brooks deciding to forgo his final two years of eligibility and enter the 2024 NFL Draft. Brooks had been the team’s leading rusher with 1,139 yards and 10 touchdowns before a season-ending ACL injury. Despite his early exit, his performance this season was exceptional, earning him Midseason All-American honors.
These developments are a major setback for Texas as they prepare for the postseason, but the team has depth in their roster with players like C.J. Baxter and Jaydon Blue expected to step up.
