Rangers Trade Shaun Anderson to Marlins
The Texas Rangers have traded pitcher Shaun Anderson to the Miami Marlins for cash considerations, as announced by the team. Anderson, 29, was signed by the Rangers in mid-April to strengthen the pitching staff at Round Rock. He was called up in mid-May to provide a multi-inning option in the major league bullpen and appeared in two games for the Rangers. He was designated for assignment on May 26 to make room for Gerson Garabito, who started against the Minnesota Twins that day.
Interestingly, the Marlins traded for Anderson despite being second in waiver priority, just behind the Chicago White Sox. This suggests the Marlins believed there was enough potential interest in Anderson to justify trading for him instead of waiting for him to hit waivers and then making a claim.
