Three Saints Candidates Likely to Be Cut Before Summer

As the New Orleans Saints gear up for the 2024 season, they will need to make several roster cuts throughout the offseason. Here are three players who might be released:

The NFL is currently buzzing with optimism as all 32 teams participate in OTAs. Fans and players are excited, whether due to promising rookies, new veteran additions, or Super Bowl hopes. However, this excitement will soon give way to the reality of roster cuts. As teams begin to shape their rosters for the season, some players will inevitably be let go.

The New Orleans Saints, having added numerous veteran players this offseason, will also need to trim their roster. The franchise has already released Kellen Mond after drafting Spencer Rattler. Here are three more players who might not make it through the summer.

Three Saints Players Who Could Be Cut This Summer

  1. QB Nathan Peterman The Saints have four quarterbacks on their roster: Derek Carr, Jake Haener, Spencer Rattler, and Nathan Peterman. It’s unlikely that New Orleans will carry all four into the season, making Peterman the most likely candidate to be cut. There’s little justification for keeping him over Haener and Rattler, who are vying for the QB2 spot.
  2. LB D’Marco Jackson Highlighted by Bleacher Report as a potential cut candidate, D’Marco Jackson faces tough competition. The Saints added several linebackers this offseason, and Jackson will need to prove his worth on special teams and as a depth linebacker to secure his spot.
  3. DE Payton Turner Payton Turner is facing a critical year not just with the Saints, but for his NFL career. The 2021 first-round pick has struggled with injuries, limiting him to just 15 games over three seasons. With Carl Granderson’s emergence, Chase Young joining the team, and Cam Jordan still a key player, Turner might not make it to his fourth season with New Orleans.
