Breaking: Virginia Tech football trying to flip 4-star Vanderbilt safety commit

Virginia Tech is making a push to sway four-star safety Carson Lawrence, currently committed to Vanderbilt, ahead of an official visit to their campus in June. This development could heighten the rivalry between Vanderbilt and Virginia Tech, who are set to face off on Labor Day Weekend in 2024. Head coach Brent Pry is preparing for a busy month in Blacksburg, hosting several top recruits from the Class of 2025.

Carson Lawrence, a standout safety from McAullie School in Tennessee, announced on social media that he will visit Virginia Tech from June 21-23. Although committed to Vanderbilt since early June 2023, Lawrence has been on Virginia Tech’s radar and is rising in the Class of 2025 rankings. Given Virginia Tech’s strong history of developing secondary players, there is speculation that Lawrence might reconsider his commitment.

Virginia Tech’s recruiting efforts will intensify over the next month, targeting other top prospects such as five-star safety Faheem Delane, the younger brother of current Hokie Mansoor Delane. Virginia Tech’s Class of 2025 already includes quarterback Kelden Ryan from Texas, offensive lineman Carter Stallard from Virginia, wide receiver Jayden Anderson from Virginia Beach, and linebacker Brent Clatterbaugh from Virginia.
