Can Indiana Football Land Five-Star Julian Lewis? It Might Not Matter as Much as You Think.
Julian Lewis is currently committed to USC, but he’s still exploring his options by taking all his recruiting visits, including one to Indiana. This situation is reminiscent of 2019 when highly sought-after defensive end Kayvon Thibodeaux took all his official visits, including one to Florida A&M. Although FAMU had little chance of signing Thibodeaux, they still benefited from his visit.
Indiana has a much better chance of signing five-star quarterback Julian Lewis than FAMU had with Thibodeaux. According to 247sports.com, Lewis remains committed to USC but is keeping his options open with planned visits to Auburn, Colorado, and Georgia, in addition to Indiana.
The fact that Indiana is on Lewis’s list is notable. If Indiana manages to sign him, he would be the highest-rated recruit in the school’s history and their first five-star signee. Even if they don’t land Lewis, his visit demonstrates that head coach Curt Cignetti is aiming to compete for top high school recruits.
Lewis is Part of a Bigger Plan Cignetti and his staff are focused on winning now, leveraging the transfer portal to bring in experienced players. They believe immediate success will enhance high school recruiting and help build a sustainable football program—something Indiana has never achieved.
High school recruiting and player development are crucial for long-term success, and having Lewis visit campus underscores Cignetti’s commitment to this strategy.
While signing Lewis is a longshot, his presence on campus is a positive sign for the Hoosiers. Cignetti might just pull off an upset and steal him from USC.
