Atlanta Douglass High School’s standout defensive back Jontae Gilbert recently made an official visit to Louisville, leaving a significant impression on the Cardinals’ coaching staff. This visit marked Gilbert’s second time at Louisville, and he found it even more enjoyable and informative than his previous unofficial visit in the spring.
Accompanied by his family this time, Gilbert had the opportunity to explore the campus, meet with coaches, tour facilities, and experience the city firsthand. Having his family along was particularly important to Gilbert, as their positive experience reinforced his own enthusiasm for the program.
Gilbert has a personal connection with the Louisville staff through former Douglass High coach Daniel Brown, who now coaches at Louisville. The coaching staff has expressed their admiration for Gilbert’s versatility and talent, envisioning him in multiple roles within the secondary.
Louisville is just the first stop on Gilbert’s official visit tour, with upcoming visits planned to UCF, South Carolina, Georgia State, and NC State. As he evaluates his options, Gilbert prioritizes understanding each program’s plan for his development and building relationships with coaches.
Following his visit to Louisville, Gilbert considers them a top-three school in his recruitment process. Currently ranked as the No. 120 overall prospect and No. 13 cornerback in the 2025 class by 247Sports, Gilbert plans to announce his commitment on Oct. 19.
In addition to Louisville, Gilbert holds offers from numerous other schools, including Clemson, Alabama, Georgia, Florida State, and Ohio State. While Clemson holds the only two Crystal Ball projections in Gilbert’s favor, his recruitment remains open as he continues to explore his options
