The Montreal Canadiens have inked Adam Engström to a three-year entry-level contract. Engström’s performance with Rögle had its ups and downs, with a notable improvement in his defensive skills following his emergence as an offensive force last year. This season’s performance will be crucial for his ongoing professional career.
In the recent season, Engström recorded 22 points (4 goals, 18 assists) in 51 games, marking a significant step in his development, especially considering Rögle’s overall struggles before their surprising Cinderella run to the SHL Final. During the playoffs, he contributed four assists in 15 games.
Known for his size and ability to play on both sides, Engström showcased his versatility by switching to his off side towards the end of the season, forming a reliable defensive pairing with Brandon Davidson when Rögle needed it most.
Engström is set to attend his first NHL training camp, where he will compete for a spot on the team’s defensive lineup. Selected in the third round, 92nd overall, in the 2022 NHL Draft, Engström is among the players vying for limited spots on the Canadiens’ defense.
