The Carolina Panthers are bolstering their roster with former Seattle Seahawks talent, as they’ve recently brought in veteran running back Rashaad Penny. ESPN’s Jeremy Fowler reported the impending signing, noting that it’s likely to occur after the team’s rookie minicamp.
Penny, a 28-year-old former first-round draft pick, was a key rushing leader for the Seahawks from 2018 to 2022, topping the team’s rushing charts in the 2021 season with 749 yards and six touchdowns. Dave Canales, who joined the Panthers as head coach in January, previously served as an offensive coach for the Seahawks during Penny’s tenure there.
Despite a brief stint with the Philadelphia Eagles last season, Penny’s playing time was limited due to a crowded backfield. Additionally, he has faced injury setbacks, including a torn ACL in 2019 and a broken fibula in 2022.
However, the Panthers are seeking to inject more excitement into their running back corps, which relied on Chuba Hubbard and Miles Sanders last season. Taking a chance on Penny aligns with their strategy of adding dynamic skill players during the offseason.
