Report: Saints bolster offensive line with 14th overall pick of NFL Draft

The New Orleans Saints have fortified their offensive line with the 14th overall pick in the NFL Draft. As the draft progresses, offensive linemen continue to be selected, and the Saints have made a predictable move to bolster their front line. They have chosen Taliese Fuaga from Oregon State.

Fuaga experienced a significant breakthrough in his fourth year at Corvallis. Following a solid redshirt sophomore season with the Beavers, Fuaga emerged as a standout player in 2023, earning Pro Football Focus’ second-highest grade for tackles nationwide. As a first-team All-American, Fuaga possesses the size, strength, and balance to step in as an immediate starter in the NFL. Many scouts believed he could excel as a guard, highlighting his versatility as a prospect.

Why Jets could draft Oregon State's Taliese Fuaga in 2024 NFL Draft

The Saints will appreciate Fuaga’s versatility, particularly with the retirement of guard James Hurst and the departure of tackle Andrus Peat in free agency. With these vacancies on the offensive line, the team is seeking replacements for two starters. Two years ago, the Saints drafted Trevor Penning in the first round, envisioning him as a potential future starter at offensive tackle. If Penning doesn’t secure the starting role, Fuaga could step in. However, if the team trusts Penning, Fuaga might transition to guard as a rookie starter.

Fuaga is the fourth offensive tackle selected in the draft at No. 14 overall, a position consistent with his rankings by most draft analysts. His selection marks Oregon State’s highest draft pick since quarterback Terry Baker went first overall in 1963 and the school’s first first-round pick since Brandin Cooks in 2014.
