Florida Basketball has made another significant addition to its roster, securing the transfer of guard Alijah Martin from Florida Atlantic over the weekend amidst a flurry of activity in the Transfer Portal.
Standing at 6’2 and hailing from Summit, Mississippi, Martin spent four seasons with the Owls, gradually establishing himself as a key figure in their backcourt. After a limited role in his freshman year, he transitioned into a full-time starter in his sophomore season, where he showcased his scoring prowess, averaging over 13 points per game.
Martin’s junior campaign was particularly notable, contributing to Florida Atlantic’s memorable season, which included a standout performance in the Final Four. Despite a slight dip in his numbers this season, Martin remained a vital asset for the Owls, helping them return to the NCAA Tournament.
Following the departure of head coach Dusty May, Martin decided to explore his options and ultimately chose to remain in Florida, joining the Gators for his final year of eligibility in the SEC. His addition bolsters Florida’s backcourt, providing a veteran presence and filling the void left by outgoing transfer Riley Kugel.
As the Gators navigate their roster changes and integrate other transfers like Sam Alexis and Rueben Chinyelu, Martin’s experience and shooting abilities are expected to be invaluable under the leadership of Todd Golden, both on and off the court, as they aim for success in the upcoming season.
