Texas Rangers pitcher Brock Burke suffered a fractured hand and was placed on the 15-day injured list after punching a wall in frustration following a disappointing performance on Friday.
During the Rangers’ 12-8 victory over the Houston Astros, Burke, a left-handed reliever, gave up four runs on three hits and recorded only two outs after throwing 21 pitches. Frustrated with his performance, Burke punched a wall, resulting in the injury.
Rangers manager Bruce Bochy expressed understanding of Burke’s competitive nature but emphasized the need to avoid such actions, citing the consequences of crossing the line.
Burke’s rough outing was eventful, including a confrontation with Astros batter Yordan Álvarez and surrendering a two-run home run to Kyle Tucker. Bochy acknowledged the need for Burke to manage his emotions better in future situations to prevent negative impacts on the team.
Bochy plans to discuss the incident with Burke, recognizing that such outbursts stem from the passion to perform well and dislike of losing.
