Leeds United has presented an offer to secure the services of Sunderland forward Mason Cotcher on a permanent basis, as reported by The Telegraph. The club is eager to bring in the young talent from their Championship counterpart following a successful trial period. Cotcher, aged 17, faces uncertainty regarding his future at Sunderland and has recently undergone training with Premier League contenders Arsenal.
According to the latest report from The Telegraph, Cotcher is poised to depart from Sunderland, with Leeds United required to provide compensation for his transfer. Leeds sees Cotcher as a prospect for the future at Elland Road, intending for him to initially join their development squad if the move is completed.
The Sunderland Echo has noted that Cotcher was offered a contract by Sunderland last summer, which he has yet to sign. Having progressed through Sunderland’s academy, Cotcher has represented the club at various youth levels. He played a significant role for Sunderland’s U18s team last season in the Premier League 2, scoring nine goals in 25 appearances across all competitions. Additionally, he was included in Mowbray’s squad for their FA Cup fixture against Shrewsbury Town last campaign.
Despite his recent training stint with Arsenal, Cotcher seems poised for a potential move to Leeds in the near future. Leeds supporters may have Cotcher on their radar as a player to watch in the coming years.
Under the management of Daniel Farke, Leeds United is currently aiming for promotion back to the Premier League at the first attempt. The team is locked in a battle with Leicester City and Ipswich Town for promotion, having recently secured a 3-1 victory against Hull City to bolster their position. With six fixtures remaining, Leeds United currently occupies 2nd place in the standings. Their next challenge is an away match against Coventry City this weekend, as they strive to maintain their positive momentum.
