According to reports, Miami Heat assistant coach Chris Quinn is being considered as an early contender to fill the head coaching vacancy with the Charlotte Hornets. The position is expected to open up once Steve Clifford steps down at the end of the season to transition into a front-office role within the team. Quinn, who previously played for the Heat during his NBA career, has served as a player development coach with Miami before assuming his current role as an assistant coach under Erik Spoelstra.
Quinn, 40, has garnered attention for coaching positions in the past, including being linked to the Milwaukee Bucks job after the team parted ways with Mike Budenholzer in 2023. The potential move to the Hornets comes amidst a challenging season for Charlotte, currently ranked near the bottom of the Eastern Conference with a record of 18-57 and on a three-game losing streak.
If Quinn were to join the Hornets, it could be a significant loss for the Heat organization, which is striving to compete for an NBA championship. The Heat, who last won the title in 2013 with stars like LeBron James, Dwyane Wade, and Chris Bosh, are still pursuing another championship.
