Oklahoma Coach Porter Moser took to social media to address the rumors circulating on Monday suggesting he was a top contender for the coaching position at DePaul. Moser vehemently denied these rumors, stating there was “zero truth” to them. Despite continued speculation throughout the day and even reports from sources such as ESPN’s Jeff Borzello, Moser felt compelled to clarify his stance while dining with his team in Kansas City before the Big 12 Tournament. He expressed frustration with the rumors and emphasized that he had not discussed any job opportunities with anyone. Borzello’s report suggested that while talks may not be as advanced as social media indicated, there was indeed interest from DePaul, which was willing to pay Moser’s $6.5 million buyout.
Moser, 55, is completing his third season as head coach at Oklahoma after a decade at Loyola Chicago. Hailing from the Chicago suburb of Naperville, Illinois, Moser has often been linked to coaching opportunities in or near Chicago. Although he has amassed a 55-44 record in Norman, he has yet to secure an NCAA Tournament berth. Despite this, his current team holds a 20-11 overall record and is expected to participate in the upcoming tournament.
