While he continues to wear the Chicago Bulls jersey, Zach LaVine is clear about his role. “My primary goal is to support my teammates and play my game,” says the Bulls guard. Aware of the uncertainty surrounding his future with the franchise, LaVine acknowledges the trade talks that surfaced, particularly before the trade deadline in February when the front office explored dealing him to the Detroit Pistons. Despite this, LaVine remains focused on maximizing his time with the Bulls as he recuperates from foot surgery.
Accustomed to the ongoing speculation about his potential relocation ever since his representatives expressed openness to exploring other options, LaVine maintains a resilient attitude. Following his season-ending surgery, he expects the trade rumors to resurface once he returns to full health, likely around the October training camp.
In his first public appearance since the surgery, LaVine expressed indifference towards the persistent trade rumors. “I’ve dealt with speculation throughout my career, and it doesn’t bother me anymore. If I let outside opinions affect me, I wouldn’t have achieved what I have today,” he stated. While he hasn’t engaged in discussions with anyone regarding his future, LaVine remains focused on his current responsibilities with the team.
Asserting his commitment to the Bulls as long as he remains a member, LaVine emphasizes his dedication to contributing on the court. “My primary objective is to support my teammates and showcase my skills. I know I can make an impact both offensively and defensively,” he adds.
As LaVine prepares for his return to action, questions linger about his performance following a disrupted season where he appeared in only 25 games, averaging 19.5 points, 5.2 rebounds, and 3.9 assists. In his absence, the Bulls have relied on players like Coby White, Ayo Dosunmu, as well as seasoned veterans DeMar DeRozan and Nikola Vucevic to fill the void.
