Former Ipswich Town striker Connor Wickham has made a move to Charlton Athletic in League One. The 30-year-old departed Cardiff City after a brief stint last summer, having spent the first part of the 2022/23 season at Forest Green Rovers.
Expressing his enthusiasm for the new opportunity, Wickham, who progressed through the Town academy, stated, “I’m excited to be here. It’s a good opportunity for me to work with a good group of lads and a good manager for the last part of the season, so it’s something I’m looking forward to. Results lately have picked up and it’s going to be a big push until the end of the season.”
Charlton’s manager Nathan Jones, whose team currently sits in 14th place in League One, commented on Wickham’s arrival, saying, “Connor’s been here for a couple of weeks and we like the human being, so that’s the start. The experience, physicality, and quality he has makes him a really good signing. We’re pleased to have him in and it’ll be interesting to see how much we can get out of him.”
Wickham joins Charlton alongside on-loan Ipswich Town players Panutche Camara and Freddie Ladapo.
In other news, former Ipswich Town striker Freddie Sears has parted ways with Dagenham & Redbridge by mutual consent. Sears, 34, joined the National League side in September after being released by Colchester United last summer. During his time with the Daggers, Sears made 23 appearances and scored one goal.
