Which Texas Rangers players are next in line for potentially lucrative contract extensions? While Corey Seager and Marcus Semien have already committed to long-term deals with the team, the spotlight now turns to other potential candidates. MLB.com recently outlined 18 players across the league who could be in line for extensions beyond the 2024 season, with two Rangers players making the list: third baseman Josh Jung and outfielder Evan Carter.
Both Jung and Carter played significant roles in the Rangers’ successful World Series campaign last season. With Seager, Semien, and Jacob deGrom already secured under big contracts until at least 2028, extending these young hitters through arbitration and possibly beyond would provide the team with financial stability moving forward.
Jung, who showcased his potential as a top-tier third baseman in his debut season, earned his first All-Star selection with impressive offensive numbers and solid defensive skills. At 26, he has plenty of room for growth and is a consistent contributor in the lineup.
Meanwhile, Carter, despite still being eligible as a rookie, displayed a veteran-like approach at the plate during the postseason, maintaining a .300 batting average in a crucial role for the team. While he’s slated to start in left field, his speed and defensive prowess could see him transition to center field, especially if rookie Wyatt Langford proves himself defensively during spring training.
Both Jung and Carter were drafted by the Rangers and are under contract for the next six seasons, giving the team flexibility to address arbitration concerns while also potentially securing their services for the long term. Similar to strategies employed by other teams like Atlanta, the Rangers may consider extending their contracts to ensure their presence for the next decade.
