The Green Bay Packers have made a significant addition to their defensive coaching staff by hiring Sean Duggan, the former co-defensive coordinator at Boston College, as a defensive assistant. Duggan, who has worked closely with Packers defensive coordinator Jeff Hafley for the past five years, brings a wealth of experience to his new role.
During his tenure at Boston College, Duggan served as the linebackers coach for four years before taking on the additional responsibility of co-defensive coordinator in 2023. His relationship with Hafley dates back to their time together at Ohio State University in 2019, where Duggan worked as a graduate assistant coach.
Duggan’s connection to Boston College runs even deeper, as he was a standout linebacker for the Eagles from 2011 to 2014, including a stint as team captain during his senior year. With his background both as a player and a coach, Duggan is well-suited to contribute to the development of linebackers, likely under the guidance of new Packers linebackers coach Anthony Campanile.
His familiarity with the Boston College program could prove beneficial, particularly in working with former Eagles standout Isaiah McDuffie, who excelled under Duggan’s coaching in 2020.
While the Packers have yet to finalize their entire coaching staff, Duggan’s hiring adds depth to the defensive side, joining Hafley and several returning coaches from the previous season. As the team prepares for the upcoming season, the addition of Duggan underscores their commitment to assembling a strong coaching roster to support their defensive efforts.
