After facing benching drama this season, Wilson’s future with the Broncos has become uncertain. Following a trade from the Seahawks, Wilson had a turbulent two seasons with the team, culminating in being benched for the final two games of 2023 in favor of Jarrett Stidham. Speculation arose that the team sidelined Wilson to avoid his 2025 injury guarantee, which would have ensured him $37 million if he remained on the roster by March 17.

Wilson disclosed in December that the team had approached him earlier in the season, threatening to bench him unless he altered his contract terms regarding the injury guarantee. Despite expressing a desire to continue with the Broncos, reports suggest that it’s likely he will be released eventually.

During his tenure in Denver, Wilson’s performance saw some ups and downs, with improvements in the second season, but it wasn’t sufficient to lead the Broncos to the playoffs, extending their postseason drought to eight consecutive years.

While head coach Sean Payton indicated in January that the team hadn’t ruled out retaining Wilson, recent reports suggest that his departure is probable.
