The Houston Astros appear poised to potentially make another addition to their roster, specifically eyeing a starting pitcher in free agency.

Entering the 2024 season, the Astros boast a formidable lineup that positions them as strong contenders for another World Series title. With a recent history of seven consecutive American League Championship Series appearances and a championship win in 2022, the team’s dynasty status remains intact.

Is Josh Hader correct on the reason why the Texas Rangers failed to sign him?

The acquisition of Josh Hader in free agency significantly bolsters their bullpen, addressing potential gaps left by the departure of four relievers from the previous season.

However, General Manager Dana Brown suggests that the Astros are still exploring further enhancements, particularly in the starting pitching department. Brown indicated to reporters, as captured by Brian McTaggart of MLB.com, that while the bullpen appears solid, an additional starting pitcher could allow for strategic adjustments, potentially enabling the transition of one starter to a relief role.

Among the current starting pitchers, J.P. France and Hunter Brown emerge as potential candidates for a bullpen transition. Both rookies were called upon last season to fill crucial roles due to injuries to Lance McCullers Jr. and Luis Garcia, as well as the departure of Justin Verlander in free agency. Brown, in particular, has already experienced a transition to a relief role during the playoffs.

While Brown may seek cost-effective starting options before the start of the 2024 season, the imminent returns of McCullers and Garcia bolster the rotation’s depth and quality.

Despite their competitive lineup, resolving the pitching situation remains a priority for the Astros, as it would further solidify their ability to contend with any team in the league.
