Grant Williams, the former standout of Tennessee Vols basketball, finds himself traded in the NBA for the second time in less than a year.
Last summer, Williams was moved from the Boston Celtics, the team that originally drafted him in the first round in 2019, to the Dallas Mavericks.
Just ahead of the NBA trade deadline on Thursday, Williams was dealt to the Charlotte Hornets in exchange for PJ Washington. This trade marks a return to his hometown for the former Vols star.
While born in Houston, Williams spent his formative years in Charlotte, attending Providence Day School, the same alma mater as five-star Vols recruit David Sanders Jr., who is being targeted for the 2025 season.
During this season, the former Tennessee forward has seen a career-high average of 26.4 minutes per game, along with 8.1 points per game.
Although Williams may not rack up flashy statistics, his gritty style of play brings undeniable toughness to the court. He fearlessly engages with players of all calibers in the NBA, displaying his resilience against opponents ranging from benchwarmers to the likes of LeBron James.
