According to Emily Wagster Pettus of the Associated Press, Mississippi’s state auditor has filed court documents renewing the demand for Favre to reimburse the state for welfare funds allegedly misused in projects associated with the retired NFL player.

The demand, totaling nearly $730,000, marks the latest development in an ongoing legal dispute concerning funds intended to aid some of the most economically disadvantaged individuals in the nation’s poorest state.

Auditor Shad White clarified that this amount represents interest accrued from the $1.1 million received by the Green Bay Packers legend. Favre had previously repaid the principal sum through two separate payments in 2020 and 2021.

Allegations suggest that Favre accepted the $1.1 million in exchange for speaking engagements he did not fulfill. Additionally, there are claims that $5 million in TANF funds were directed toward a volleyball facility at South Mississippi, where Favre’s daughter was involved.
