Bulls Trade Speculation: Evaluating Andre Drummond’s Potential Suitors

As the NBA trade deadline looms on February 8th, rumors surrounding potential deals intensify. According to Michael Scotto of HoopsHype, four teams have expressed interest in acquiring Chicago Bulls center Andre Drummond. These teams — the Boston Celtics, Dallas Mavericks, Los Angeles Lakers, and Phoenix Suns — are all considered contenders, either due to their records or the star talent on their rosters.

So, which team offers the most appealing trade package for Drummond? Let’s assess each team’s potential fit based on the alignment of their players with the Bulls’ young core of Ayo Dosunmu, Coby White, and Patrick Williams, as well as the strategic role of any incoming players and the impact of their salaries.

  1. Dallas Mavericks: The Mavericks lack a clear salary-matching option for Drummond, and their rotational player Dereck Lively II is not a feasible trade candidate. Thus, there’s little opportunity for a mutually beneficial trade between the two teams.
  2. Los Angeles Lakers: While Cam Reddish could provide defensive value, his limited shooting prowess might limit his fit within the Bulls’ system. Nonetheless, he could fill a role as an off-ball cutter, potentially contributing to the team’s needs depending on Williams’ health and future decisions.
  3. Phoenix Suns: Acquiring Drew Eubanks from the Suns presents a viable option for the Bulls to bolster their frontcourt depth. Given the Bulls’ current lack of big-man depth, Eubanks could serve as a suitable replacement for Drummond while also potentially addressing future needs.
  4. Boston Celtics: The Celtics stand out as the most promising trade partner for the Bulls, primarily due to the potential upside of Oshae Brissett. Brissett’s skills in offensive rebounding and perimeter defense could significantly benefit the Bulls, particularly in bolstering their three-point defense. Additionally, his contract expiration after next season aligns well with the Bulls’ future plans.

Ultimately, the Celtics offer the most appealing trade package for Drummond, providing a combination of immediate impact and future potential.
