Atlanta Braves Ink Former White Sox Prospect to Minor League Agreement
The Atlanta Braves have bolstered their minor league depth through a recent free agency move, as per the team’s transactions log. The Braves have signed Yolbert Sanchez to a minor league deal, adding experience and skill to their organizational depth.
Sanchez, a former international free agent signed by the Chicago White Sox in July 2019 from Cuba, had an impressive debut season with the DSL White Sox, posting a .827 OPS over 29 games at the age of 22. The subsequent year saw him limited to instructional league play due to the absence of a 2020 minor league season. He returned to the field in 2021, ranking as the White Sox’s No. 23 prospect by MLB Pipeline. During the 2021 season, he showcased his abilities in High-A and Double-A, slashing .308/.352/.419 with nine home runs, 42 RBIs, and five stolen bases across 101 games. Sanchez continued his success in the Arizona Fall League, going 14-for-35 with eight RBIs in 12 games.
Heading into the 2022 season, Sanchez rose to become Chicago’s No. 15 prospect, contributing significantly in Triple-A with a combined .287/.346/.344 line along with three home runs, 46 RBIs, and 11 stolen bases across 127 games. Despite a productive season, he fell out of the Top 30 prospects for Chicago in 2023, posting a .271/.321/.333 line with Triple-A Charlotte.
Released by the White Sox in September 2023, Sanchez now seeks to revive his promising start with the Braves. As the 26-year-old begins his journey with the organization, he has been assigned to the Gwinnett Stripers in Triple-A. Although starting the 2024 season in Triple-A, Sanchez remains a notable name to watch for a potential MLB call-up in the near future, providing valuable middle infield depth to the Braves.
