Braden Huff of the Gonzaga Bulldogs secured his third West Coast Conference Freshman of the Week accolade following an impressive performance in which he scored a career-high 26 points last Saturday. Huff played a key role coming off the bench during the Bulldogs’ dominant 105-63 victory over San Diego, shooting 12-for-17 from the floor in just 20 minutes. This surpasses his previous best of 23 points against Eastern Oregon earlier in the season, setting new highs in points, field goals made, and field goals attempted in his early career.
Across Gonzaga’s recent road games, Huff maintained a notable average of 17.5 points, showcasing his scoring prowess by making 72.7% of his field goal attempts (16 out of 22) in victories against Pepperdine and San Diego. The 6-foot-10 post now shares the lead for WCC Freshman of the Week honors this season with Portland’s Tyler Harris, each having earned the recognition three times. While Harris leads in scoring among WCC freshmen with 12.3 points per game, Huff is close behind with an average of 11.4 points per game.
Other freshmen considered for this week’s honor include Ryan Beasley from San Francisco, Nils Cooper from Pepperdine, Bol Dengdit from Portland, and Kevin Patton Jr. from San Diego. The WCC Player of the Week was awarded to Saint Mary’s sophomore forward Joshua Jefferson, who achieved his third double-double of the season with a career-high 21 points and 10 rebounds in the Gaels’ 77-60 victory over San Francisco. Saint Mary’s has now had three different players receive the Player of the Week award.
